Proposals are hereby invited for the following: Appointment of service providers for hydrological studies for the three clusters in the Welisizwe Rural Bridges Programme: • Cluster 1: KwaZulu Natal (17) and Eastern Cape (17); • Cluster 2: Free State (14) and North West (14); • Cluster 3: Limpopo (17) and Mpumalanga (17). The objective of the RFP is to source for a service provider who will provide technical engineering advise to the Welisizwe Bridge Programme. The service provider will conduct hydrological studies that will guide the bridge designers to provide best design scenario providing safe and cost-effective bridges for the programme. The design of gabion erosion protection works is undertaken by the Department of Defence whilst the maximum lengths of the modular bridge structures will be determined by a modular bridge supplier. The key requirements for the service provider are the following: i. Technical strength – registered hydrology professional engineers to approve the designs; ii. Professional Indemnity – the service provider must ensure that the professionally registered engineer is indemnified against liability for all work undertaken; iii. Good communication skills – the programme has stakeholders such as DPWI, NDOT, PICC TTT, SANDF and Provincial Departments of Roads and Transport that will need to be consulted. The service provider is required to ensure that services rendered will be carried out by resources having the requisite expertise in hydrological engineering, particular experience in hydrology of bridges, major drainage structures or dams is preferred.
